- Super Fumble Fingers version 2.0
- --------------------------------
- By Marc Matteo (original INIT by Brad Quick)
-
- Way back when an INIT was released that would do some pretty funny stuff.
- It was called Fumble Fingers and what it would do is wait until a series of
- characters (a string) was typed at the keyboard and then replace them with its
- own series of characters (another string).
- Originally ResEdit was necessary to set the 'STR ' resources within the
- INIT to the desired strings and then the INIT had to be placed in the system
- folder.
-
- But now there's Super Fumble Fingers! Super Fumble Fingers is an
- application that automates the installation of the Fumble Fingers INIT. In
- fact all the Fumble Fingers resources can now as an option be installed
- directly into the system file (see below).
-
- --------------------
- How do I use it?
-
- Try clicking on it, that works for me! Upon startup SFF looks for any
- Fumble Fingers resources already installed in the system file and if it finds
- them it will display the current strings in the main dialog box along with the
- four command buttons: Install, Remove, Save INIT and Quit. If a problem is
- detected SFF will go automatically to the remove sequence.
-
- Hitting 'Install' will start the 'install' sequence. SFF will then prompt
- you for the two words. 'Old string' is the word you want to be scanned for.
- 'New string' is the word you want to replace it. Then it'll install all the
- pertinent resources (including the two strings) in the current system file.
- That's all there is to it!
-
- Hitting 'Remove' will start the 'remove' sequence. SFF will look in the
- system file for it's resources and remove them. I go through great pains to
- make sure it'll only nuke it's resources and not someone else's.
-
- Hitting 'Install INIT' will create an INIT (startup document, system
- extension, whatever) that can be manually installed in the system folder. As
- with the install function you will be prompted for the two words (Old String
- and New String). This feature is nice if you're a little paranoid about
- changing system resources (which you should be).
-
- Hitting 'Quit' will, of course, quit the program.
-
-
- --------------------
- Mother of mercy, you're tampering with the System file!!
-
- Yes, I am. I do this for two reasons. One, because it makes Fumble
- Fingers infinitely harder to detect by casual inspection and two, it gets
- Fumble Fingers active before anything else so that such things as startup
- Appleshare dialogs are susceptible to Fumble Fingers.
- This is not a virus! It does not replicate! It will however send your
- virus software into a tizzy fit. Save yourself a headache and turn your virus
- software off BEFORE you try to install Fumble fingers. It is meant as a joke
- and such should be treated as such. So don't spring it on uptight people that
- might have a heart attack and die.
